Stage X Intercomp Digital Valve Spring Tester

Getting maximum on-track performance from a Subaru without valve spring failures depends on choosing and testing the springs properly. This tester helps keep high-performance engines in good order.

Designed and built in the USA by Intercomp, it uses electronic load cell technology with a digital display to give consistent pressure ratings for valve, clutch and other small springs used in motorsport. It is calibrated using a certified process for accuracy. Used at set intervals, it lets racers check and rate spring strength, keeping performance at its best and reducing the chance of failures.

The tester is made of powder-coated aluminium and has a maximum capacity of 1,000 lb (500 kg). This heavy-duty, low-maintenance unit takes springs up to two inches in diameter and four inches tall. The hand-crank and screw design compresses a spring to a specific height, and the reading can be recorded while the spring is still under load. The backlit LCD also has a peak hold function, which shows the maximum spring force at a given height.

Choosing the right engine components and following a preventative maintenance plan that inspects high-wear and high-stress parts is essential in any serious motorsport programme.
