The High Grip tensioner system was developed to solve the problem of belts bouncing and skipping teeth at high engine rpm, which can have catastrophic results.

Race and rally teams have preferred the original 2-piece tensioner system for many years, as it has proven far more reliable than the later single-piece swinging tensioner. Its disadvantage is that it has no small idler bearing to reduce belt bounce and flex.

The solution is a completely bespoke billet aluminium bracket that uses the original tensioner and incorporates the later 2002+ small idler bearing. It is a worthwhile modification on all high-revving engines and a must on cars with a sequential gearbox, where belt skipping can be a major concern.

This kit is for cars with the later-style system in place. It replaces the whole bracket, hydraulic tensioner and tensioner bearing, along with the small idler bearing.
