Stage X Oil Cooler Kit 2008-2012

Engine oil temperature is key to engine health as well as performance. Under hard driving, oil temperatures rise naturally because the faster-moving engine components generate more heat. As the oil gets hotter its viscosity thins, which reduces its ability to lubricate engine components efficiently and leads to premature wear and, in extreme cases, engine failure.

This oil cooler kit is designed to keep oil temperatures at a safe level. It uses quality components and is built to last.

Location and fitment were an important part of the design. The core needs to catch as much cold, fast-moving air as possible, and ideally the cooler should mount without drilling into the body. After R&D, road tests and dyno power runs, the mounting bracket was made to fit snugly behind the front upper grille, using existing mounting points and clips on the vehicle. The cooler can be fitted within minutes.

The 200 Series hose has long been used by motorsport championship teams. It protects against high pressure, temperature, vibration, fire risk and chafing. It has a seamless synthetic CPE inner with an integral stainless steel braid and a high-tensile stainless steel outer braid, and offers the highest corrosion and fire resistance of any stainless braided nitrile hose. The silicone-covered sleeve acts as a secondary fire retardant, insulator and chafe protector, with operating temperatures from -54°C to 260°C and short-term fire protection of up to 1090°C.

Each line end has a re-usable alloy fitting engineered for 200 Series hose. The aerospace-standard triple seal / double O-ring nitrile design gives a secure, leak-free connection, and the 360-degree swivel ends allow any alignment needed.

The mounting bracket is laser cut and folded into shape. It has pressed fixings for the oil cooler core and swaged holes that reduce weight and improve rigidity and strength.

The thermostatically controlled sandwich plate is made so the oil lines can be directed at multiple angles, giving the best possible fitment on all exhaust manifold variants, including twin scroll, equal length and unequal length. It has two spare ports for oil temperature and pressure sensors (blanks are supplied if they are not needed) and a replacement extended union that allows both the plate and the oil filter to be fitted. The built-in thermostat opens at 85°C, so the engine reaches a suitable temperature before further oil cooling is needed.
