Stage X Power Steering Cooler Kit 2008-2012

In warm parts of the world, power steering pump failures are common because components overheat, even in normal everyday driving. Many race cars have the same problem: the steering system is worked harder, temperatures rise, and the thinner power steering fluid causes premature wear to the bearings inside the pump.

This cooler kit is designed to keep temperatures at a safe level. Only the best components were chosen, so it deals with rising fluid temperatures and is built to last.

Location and fitting were important in the design. The core needs to catch as much cold, flowing air as possible, and ideally the cooler should fit without drilling into the body. After R&D and a number of dyno and road tests, the mounting bracket was made to sit snugly behind the front upper grille, using existing mounting points and clips on the vehicle. The cooler can be fitted within minutes and has access to a large amount of fast-moving cold air. The kit is also designed to complement the Stage X Engine Oil Cooler Kit, which sits on the opposite side of the grille and does a similar job.

Core

Each kit is supplied with a 10 row Setrab core. Setrab cores are known for strength and quality, with working temperatures from -40°C to 150°C and a maximum burst pressure of 37 Bar(g).

Lines and fittings

Goodridge produces the pre-assembled lines to Stage X specification using its -6 210 Series hose. The 210 Series is based on the conventional 200 Series stainless steel braided nitrile hose, widely used in all forms of racing. It has a lightweight fibre braid with high abrasion resistance and is well suited to carrying power steering fluid. It is a lightweight alternative to the 200 Series where the stainless steel braid is not necessary and weight saving matters. Each line end is fitted with a Goodridge re-usable alloy fitting engineered for 200 Series hose. The aerospace-standard triple seal / double O-ring nitrile design gives a secure, leak-free connection, and the 360-degree swivel ends allow any required alignment.

Mounting bracket

Each kit includes a black, hardened, powder-coated steel mounting bracket. It is laser cut and carefully folded into shape, with pressed fixings for the cooler core to attach to and swaged holes to reduce weight and improve rigidity and strength.
