Engine oil cooler

Oil temperature is key to engine health as well as performance. Under hard driving, oil temperatures rise as the faster-moving engine components generate more heat. As temperatures climb, the oil thins and lubricates less effectively, which leads to premature wear and, in extreme cases, engine failure. This cooler kit is designed to keep oil temperatures at a safe level.

Each kit is supplied with a choice of a 10 or 19 row Setrab core. Setrab cores are renowned for strength and quality, with a working temperature range of -40°C to 150°C and a maximum burst pressure of 37 bar(g).

The pre-assembled lines use Goodridge -8 200 Series stainless steel braided nitrile hose, which protects against high pressure, temperature, vibration, fire and chafing. It has a seamless synthetic CPE inner with an integral stainless steel braid and a high-tensile stainless steel outer braid, and offers the highest corrosion and fire resistance threshold of any stainless braided nitrile hose available.

The lines are also covered with a silicone sleeve that acts as a secondary fire retardant, insulator and chafe protector. The sleeve operates from -54°C to 260°C and gives short-term fire protection up to 1090°C. Each line end has a Goodridge re-usable alloy fitting made for 200 Series hose. The aerospace-standard triple seal / double O-ring nitrile design gives a secure, leak-free connection, and the 360-degree swivel ends allow any required alignment.

The thermostatically controlled oil sandwich plate completes the kit:

• Oil lines can be directed at multiple angles, so the plate fits all exhaust manifold variants, including twin scroll, equal length and unequal length.
• Two spare ports for oil temperature and pressure sensors, with blanks supplied if they are not needed.
• A replacement extended union allows both the plate and the oil filter to be fitted.
• The built-in thermostat opens at 85°C, so the engine reaches a suitable temperature before further oil cooling is needed.

Power steering cooler

In warm climates, power steering pump failures from overheating are common, even in normal daily driving. Race cars see the same problem because of the greater demands on the steering system: higher temperatures thin the power steering fluid and cause premature wear to the bearings inside the pump. This cooler kit is designed to keep power steering fluid temperatures at a safe level.

The mounting brackets for both coolers fit behind the front upper grille, using the existing mounting points and clips on the vehicle, so no drilling into the body is needed. The cores can be fitted within minutes and have access to a large amount of fast-moving cold air.

The power steering cooler kit is supplied with a 10 row Setrab core, with the same -40°C to 150°C working temperature range and 37 bar(g) maximum burst pressure.

The pre-assembled lines use Goodridge -6 210 Series hose. It is based on the conventional 200 Series stainless steel braided nitrile hose, but has a lightweight fibre braid with high abrasion resistance, which makes it well suited to carrying power steering fluid. It is a lighter alternative to 200 Series where the stainless steel braid is not necessary and weight saving matters. Each line end has a Goodridge re-usable alloy fitting with the same triple seal / double O-ring nitrile design and 360-degree swivel ends.

Mounting brackets

Each kit is supplied with a choice of black hardened powder-coated steel or brushed stainless steel mounting brackets. The brackets are laser cut and folded into shape, with pressed fixings for the cooler core and swaged holes that reduce weight and improve rigidity and strength.
